A Report on Centre Festival - 4: (Our Pride Our State)

 Classes - I to IV.                                                                                    Date 12 January 2024


On Friday, 12 January 2024, the Foundation Centre II organised a festival on the theme Our Pride Our State. The main objective of the festival was to acknowledge the students about the importance of the state. 

Karnataka is a state in the Republic of India. It has an area of 74,122 square miles (191,980 km2). It has 31 districts. Bangalore is the capital city of Karnataka. Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Kalaburgi and Vijayanagar are the other big cities in Karnataka. The Kannada language is the official language and the most prominent language spoken by the people in Karnataka. Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Hindi and Malayalam are also spoken in Karnataka.  

Karnataka was formed on November 1, 1956. The name of Mysore state on November 1,1973 was renamed as Karnataka. The state is divided into 4 divisions.

Bengaluru division is one of the four divisions of the State Karnataka. The division comprises Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Ramanagara, Shimoga, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural,  and Tumakuru. The total area of the division is 49,936 sq.km.  

Mysuru division is one of the four divisions of the State Karnataka.  Under the Mysuru division, there are totally eight districts- Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Chikkamagalur, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chamarajanagara and Kodagu. Mysuru is famous in the world for its sandalwood and rosewood artifacts, stone sculptures, incense sticks, inlay work and its exquisite silk sarees. Mysore Dasara is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur for ten days and people from every corner of the globe visit this city during the festival. There are some notable heritage structures in Mysore like the famous Mysore Palace, the Chamundi Hill, Mysore Zoo. 

Kalaburagi division formerly known as Gulbarga division, is one of the four divisions of the State Karnataka. It has seven districts, namely: Ballari district, Bidar district, Kalaburagi district, Koppal district, Raichur district, Yadgir district, and Vijayanagar district. The Hindu and Muslim-influenced architectural wonders are fuelling the division’s growth. The city's forts are fascinating, and it is also famous as a sufi spiritual centre. Every visitor and history buff will find something to love in the city, as it has just the appropriate amount of cultural heritage and beauty, coupled with stunning settings.

Belagavi division is one of the four divisions of the State Karnataka. The division comprises the districts of Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bijapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Uttara Kannada. Belagavi division as a natural wonder such as the flowing Gokak Falls and Sural Falls, palaces, forts, temples and waterfalls.

The venue of the centre festival was decorated beautifully based on the theme. The program began by lighting the lamp before the idol of Goddess Saraswathi. The ceremony was enchanted with a bhajan sung by a group of students from class IV.

         The programme included power-point presentation, video-clippings, skits, dances performed by the students, an exhibition and an activity highlighting the importance of the state.

        This Centre Festival was a successful one in acknowledging the students with the information about the state and its importance. It was a platform for the students to exhibit their skills of communication by taking part in various activities enthusiastically thus building confidence to overcome the stage fear.
