A Report on the Orientation – 04-06-2024
Adolescence is the period of transition between childhood and adulthood. Children entering into adolescence go through many physical and mental changes. It is a unique stage of human development and an important time for laying the foundations of good health and future.
On Tuesday, 4 June 2024, an orientation programme about the ‘Nature and Challenges of Adolescence’ was organised in our school for the students of classes 9 and 10. The school cordially invited the Orienteer Dr Amani Kanugolu, Assistant Professor in SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Navi Mumbai.
Dr Amani Kanugolu enlightened our students about the challenges faced during the adolescence and highlighted many aspects such as self-control, brain development, physical, intellectual, psychological and social challenges, as well as development of moral compass and how to overcome or avoid risks.
Dr Amani Kanugolu also revealed the elements of biological growth and major social role transitions among adolescents both of which have changed in the past century. Since the brain is not fully developed until the mid-twenties and many young adults still live with their parents or require emotional and financial support, many individuals feel that 24 is a better estimate for making important decisions of life. Once adults reach 25, they may be more situated in the career world and have a better idea of what they want their future in society to look like. She also interacted with students and answered many questions asked by students with great patience and examples.
We thank the orienteer Dr Amani Kanugolu, for enriching our students’ knowledge with the most important aspects of adolescence. We hope to organize many such orientations for our students for their better understanding of life’s aspects.
