“Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life” is a saying by Mortimer J. Adler. Reading influences the mind to sharpen the point of view, become fast in learning, start understanding the people in the world better. Book exhibition is not only to exhibit the books but it also offers more access to books to students. They explore them to different cultures, connect them with favourite authors, develop their interests in reading and motivates them. With this objective the “Book Exhibition” was organised by Dream World School under the Saga 7 Wing on Thursday, 27 June 2024 at 11:15 a.m. The programme started with a prayer song by students and lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Guest Shri Narasanna and the Principal Ms. Parimala C. M.
The Guest:
Shri Narasanna is the Chief Librarian (Group-B) in City Central Library, Ballari, Dept. of Public Libraries, Govt. of Karnataka who served in as a Library Officer (Gr. - II) in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bengaluru and as an Assistant Librarian in Jain University, Bengaluru. He started his speech by the concept called know the Library and Get into Library. Sir also gave us information regarding different types of libraries. The Public Libraries Act has come into force since 1965 in Karnataka. He mentioned that reading books can help us develop empathy, understand different perspectives, and build emotional intelligence. He also recalled the saying said by our former Bharat’s President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, “Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge, and knowledge makes you great.”
He adviced the students that social media can lead to a loss of privacy, excessive use of mobile phones can have a detrimental effect on the mental health of children. But getting immersed in a book allows us to “enter the perspective of characters-not just their thinking, but their feeling”. He also stated that if factual knowledge had to be learnt or should start out on some basic skills, then the best bet to start out is a Book. Schooling is the right age for students to start their career counselling journey and access to a good library sets the sail.
A library is a collection of sources of information and similar resources, made accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing. It provides physical or digital access to the reading material. Students can explore different cultures, connect to favourite authors, develop their interests in reading and motivate themselves. Therefore, students should strive to attend book fairs. Libraries build the ability of thinking in different perspective about any situation by reading different books. Reading and writing helps us to build will power and disciplined life, which can help us achieve incredible goals.
The Exhibition:
Book Exhibition is a special day for our Students, Staff and the Parents as it throws a vibrant light on the variety of books available in the school library. The school library has 21,054 books in total which includes Fictions, General Knowledge, Biographies, Autobiographies, an Encyclopedia, Sports and Games, History, Technology, Cooking, Yoga, Religion, Spiritual and other General Books. The Book Exhibition was held from 27th June to 4th July 2024. It was an entire week for the readers helping them to know about the library sources.
We believe and hope that the exhibition was indeed an awareness to quench the thirst of the readers and encourage the new readers to improve their knowledge by acquainting the habit of regular reading. It was a festive occasion for the book lovers to set their sail through the books displayed on all the floors of Saga 7.
