School Re-Opening Day Celebration of 2024-2025

“Book Exhibition 2025 - 2026”

Event/Activity Name

“Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered to them as a precious gift.” is a saying by Kate DiCamillo. Reading books is essential for personal growth and cognitive development, offering numerous benefits including enhanced knowledge, improved vocabulary and communication skills, stronger critical thinking, stress reduction, and the stimulation of imagination and empathy. It acts as a mental exercise that strengthens memory and focus while providing entertainment and a pathway to understanding diverse perspectives and cultures.  Book exhibition is not only to exhibit the books but it also offers more access to books to students. They explore them to different cultures, connect them with favourite authors, develop their interests in reading and motivates them. With this objective the “Book Exhibition” was organised by Dream World School under the Saga 7 Wing on Friday, 27 June 2025 at 11:15 a.m. The programme started with a prayer song by students and lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Guest Shri Dr. K. Shivalingappa Handihal and the Principal Ms. Parimala C. M.

The Guest:

Dr. K. Shivalingappa Handihal is a member of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Central Prison Interviewer Board, General Secretary of "Sangam Trust" as well as senior primary school teacher. Many of his works have been published by the famous Prakashana publication. He is honoured by many awards like Bal Sahitya Puraskar by Central Sahitya academy towards his work on publishing the book by name Notebook and Award from Kannada Book authority on publishing a ‘Pusthaka Sogasu’, Bichi Award, Ashtadiggajas Award by Narayana Reddy Telugu Pitam, National Award given by Sri Krishnadevaraya descendant, for the book ‘Young Scientist’ he won the 1st prize among 22 languages and State Level Sahitya Siri Award for his service to the literature for children.

Dr. K. Shivalingappa Handihal started his speech by the concept called the “Importance of Reading Books”. He said that reading storybooks offer distinct but equally valuable benefits. Textbooks provide foundational knowledge for professional growth and critical thinking, while storybooks foster empathy, imagination, personal and social development. The more we know about our emotions and feelings, the better we can empathise with others and relate to their point of view. Reading stories can showcase the emotions and help us pinpoint different feelings in ourselves and those around us. To follow a story, we need to be able to remember it. Reading an extended story over a number of nights will build on the child’s memory skills. We could go on further and ask for a recap or a ‘previously on…’ before or after a reading session. When it comes to discussion of books the three words, he mostly used were, “We should read….” He have developed a process for discovering books he wanted to read and he put his entire trust in that process. He calls it the Butterfly Effect of Reading. He believes that it is the result of the freedom he has now. He adviced the students that books have been scientifically proven to improve vocabulary, grades, imagination, and even our happiness. Unfortunately, not everybody enjoys it, which can be quite devastating to their future. We can't escape reading! But making reading a hobby that we enjoy will make anything better. We can go anywhere with a book in hand, so keep reading if we want to enjoy reading. He gave conclusion that knowledge is a powerful tool that can help individuals and organizations achieve success. However, keeping knowledge to oneself can limit its potential impact. Sharing knowledge not only benefits others but also enriches the sharer’s own experience and understanding.

A library is a collection of sources of information and similar resources, made accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing. It provides physical or digital access to the reading material. Students can explore different cultures, connect to favourite authors, develop their interests in reading and motivate themselves. Therefore, students should strive to attend book fairs. Libraries build the ability of thinking in different perspective about any situation by reading different books. Reading and writing helps us to build will power and disciplined life, which can help us achieve incredible goals.

The Exhibition:

Book Exhibition is a special day for our Students, Staff and the Parents as it throws a vibrant light on the variety of books available in the school library. The school library has 21,481 books in total which includes Fictions, General Knowledge, Biographies, Autobiographies, Encyclopedia, Sports and Games, History, Technology, Cooking, Yoga, Religion, Spiritual and other general books. The Book Exhibition was held from 27th June to 4th July 2025. It was an entire week for the readers helping them to know about the library sources.

We believe and hope that the exhibition was indeed an awareness to quench the thirst of the readers and encourage the new readers to improve their knowledge by acquainting the habit of regular reading. It was a festive occasion for the book lovers to set their sail through the books displayed on all the floors of Saga 7..
