CELEBRATION OF GANESHA CHATURTHI FESTIVAL

  वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ

निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा

One of the major Hindu-festivals is Ganesha Chaturthi that marks the commemoration of the birth of Ganesha. It is celebrated throughout India in every home or locality, educational institution, spiritual centre, temple etc. as ‘Ganesha Navaraatri Utsav’ with great fervour and fidelity irrespective of religion, region, rich or poor.

It is known that the Ganesha festival is celebrated on every Bhadrapada Shukla Chavithi of a lunar year. Lord Ganesha’s devotees believe that worshipping Him will eliminate the obstacles of one’s ambitions and all actions that one performs. Also, the devotees will be blessed with worthy wisdom and great happiness. So, it is a custom to worship Ganesha at the beginning of any ritual or ceremony. Hence, He is popular as ‘Vighnaharta’.

This year, 70 students from the classes VIII, IX and X had ecstatically taken part in the puja by venerating the Ganesha idols sculpted by each student with great devotion to seek the blessings of Lord Vighneshwara (Ganesha).

Idol Making:

Usually, in the school, ‘Ganesha Chaturthi’ festival preparations begin one week in advance with the making of eco-friendly clay idols of Ganesha by the students. Each student crafted a clay model of Ganesha on his/her own for the purpose of puja, after the school hours i.e., from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. under the guidance of the Fine Arts teacher Mr. Guru Linga.

Ganesha Puja :

This year Ganesha Chaturthi was celebrated on Wednesday, 31.8.2022. On that day, the Ganesha puja rituals started at 7:15 a.m. in the

guidance of Sri Laksmi Narayana, the priest of ‘Shri Balaji Temple, Balaji Nagar’, Ballari, and his assistant Sri Sandeep Swamy. The student participants worshipped the individual clay idols of Ganesha made by them. On behalf of school, the Chief Mr. K. Anil Babu performed Ganesha puja with utmost devotion along with the members of his family to the clay idol of Ganesha made for the school.

This puja was performed at the quadrangle of Building 1 of the school. They worshipped Lord Ganesha with devotion and offered sincere prayers and pranams, followed by Aartis to Him in accordance with veda mantras chanted by the priests.  The  teacher  incharge of  Pragyana wing  Mr. Shashidhara,  Kannada  teachers  Mr. Mallaiah  and  Mr. Mahindra, and  sports  teachers  Mr. Anjaneyulu  and  Mr. Daya had worked together and made the arrangements for the puja well  in the  supervision  of  the school Chief Mr. K. Anil Babu.

After the shodasa puja to Ganesha, the priest briefed the importance of celebrating Ganesha Chaturthi and why it is so customary to begin every occasion with the blessings of Lord Ganesha, who removes all obstacles. The priest narrated the story of ‘Syamantaka Mani’ and the significance of ‘Ganesha Vrata’.

The puja was concluded at around 11:00 a.m. with the distribution of Prasadam sponsored by Mr. Ravi Shankar, a well-wisher of the school. The Prasadam was served to all the devotees.

Nimajjanam:

The word 'Nimajjanam' or 'Visarjan' means, immersion of Lord Ganapati's idol in water, a send-off to Him.

It was a wonderful and miraculous event. At about 4:00 p.m. the interested students of classes Nursery to 10th gathered along with the devotees, school staff, parents and well-wishers in the school ground. Then almost for 1 hour all of them threw coloured powder at each other. From 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. student teams of class X entertained the viewers with their admirable and rhythmic dance performances as a tribute to Lord Ganesha.

They were then drenched by a water sprayer handled by Mr. Hampa Reddy. This thrilling event created a feeling of euphoria like they were playing in the rain and enjoying themselves the fun filled moments. All the kids were enthusiastically involved, forgetting their difficulties, problems and stress in the celebration.

Later, Ganesha idols were immersed in water tubs in the school. Then the clay dissolved water was poured to plants and trees.

The Chief Mr. K. Anil Babu, and the Chairman of the institution Shri K. Channappa and Smt K. Seshu Channappa witnessed the Nimajjanam (Visarjana) of Ganesha.

It is believed that when the idol of the Ganesha is immersed in a water body, it destroys all the obstacles or evils of the house with the ‘Visarjan’.

These occasions conserve and promote the Hindu tradition, culture and values among the younger generations. It is hoped that this Ganesha puja pleases Him and brings peace, wisdom, prosperity and happiness in every one’s life.
