A Report on National Reading Day

Books are our friends and reading is one of the biggest and oldest modes of entertainment. To emphasise on the skills of reading the National Reading Day was declared by our honorary Prime Minister to be celebrated in the honour of Narayana Panicker, the father of library movement in Kerala on 19th June (his death anniversary).

On Wednesday, 27th July 2022 Dream World School organised National Reading Day. As a part of this programme the  ‘Readers Club’ of Saga 7 organised the ‘Read a book’ programme for 15 days from 12th July 2022 to 26th July 2022. In this span of time the students who completed reading a book took part in the ‘National Reading Day’ programme.  Apart from this reading sessions were organised for classes 1 to 10.

The programme started with a prayer and lighting the lamp. Some activities were conducted for students like, book presentations by students of Class 7, activities on identification of books’ title and their authors. Inspiring video clippings were played to signify the importance of books, care for books, to highlight the idea of not wasting paper, the long journey of a book as a paper from the raw form to the finished sources as resources spreading knowledge.

At the end of the programme the students were motivated by the Chief Mr. K. Anil Babu with the tremendous light thrown on the role of books and library (Saga 7) and encouraging students to involve in the reading habits. He believes that knowledge gained by reading can help us reach our goal with an ease and gain respect in the society. He also stressed on the knowledge that we gain from Nature around us which is amazing and the greatest teacher to make us think and research. Nature has been an inspiration for numerous poets, writers, artists and scientists since long time ago.
